St. Stephen town council  voted recently to remove the $2. daily fee previously charged for using the Town’s two outdoor public swimming pools. Now residents and visitors alike can cool-off for free this Summer! (more…)

Groundbreaking ceremony to start new U.S. border inspection building

On Saturday, April 19th a ceremony was held to officially commence construction of a new U.S. Land Port of Entry for Calais, Maine. The new $48.3 million facility will be built next to the new third bridge on the outskirt of Calais. The new international bridge across the St. Croix river is already under-construction and should be completed later this Fall. The new U.S. building is expected to be completed by November 2009. Civic Centre receives major donation from former resident

The Charlotte County Civic Centre project just received a major donation from a former resident of St. Stephen-Milltown now working in Vancouver, B.C.  Robert Quartermain, president, Silver Standard Resources gave $172,724. towards the proposed $15 million regional project. Robert Quartermain is quoted as saying ” I believe that I am who I am today due in large part to the life and opportunities I enjoyed in my early years growing up and learning about life in St. Stephen. Civic Centre fundraising campaign officially launched

The Charlotte County Civic Centre committee officially launched the $3.5 million fundraising campaign yesterday here in St. Stephen. The campaign’s honorary co-chairpersons are David and Diane Ganong. They announced that $1.2 million has already been raised from large corporate and private donations towards the $15 million community project. According to project president Richard Fulton the civic centre could be operational by 2012. (more…)

A sure sign that Spring has arrived

It is a sure sign that Spring has arrived in Charlotte County when Scoops ice-cream parlour opens for the season just down the street from Blair House in St. Stephen. A wide selection of flavours at a great price. Next week in the St. George area on highway Route #1 the reknowned Ozzie’s Lunch take-out will also re-open for the Summer season. Mmmmm.

Annual Seaside Gardens tour on July 19th, 2008

The St. Andrews-by-the-Sea Garden Club’s annual “Seaside Gardens” tour will be held this year on Saturday, July 19th from noon to 5:00 p.m. The self-guided tour offers an opportunity to visit thirteen gardens in St. Andrews with a strawberry shortcake reception at Passamaquoddy Lodge from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. (more…)
