Filed under: General News, Recipes, Blair House News — David @ 9:58 pm

At Blair House we have always offered HP sauce as a condiment with our English mixed grill breakfast. Friday, March 16 was the last day for this traditional British condiment HP sauce to be made in England. The Aston, Birmingham factory is closing and HP sauce will now be made in H.J. Heinz Co.’s factory at Elst, in the Netherlands. According to Associated Press in the Boston Globe, HP sauce holds 71 % of the $82-million UK brown sauce market. The tangy “House of Parliament” sauce was invented by a Nottingham grocer in the 1890’s and is made of malt vinegar, dates, sugar, apples, tomato and spices.
